October rain

1200 $

This painting was created in 2021. I spent half of this year teaching painting and the rest of the time traveling alone. There are less paintings and more poetry creation. Most of the feelings about the works come from what I saw during my travels.

It was rainy in October in Wuhan this year, and I went to meet a person in October here.

Creative themes and style |   My works revolve around the creative concept of  "The land of humanity, People on the land". The people in the painting are people in nature, and the lines, shapes, and colors are close to nature. The nature in the painting is nature in the eyes of humans, existing in interaction with humans.I don’t pursue a series of works with a fixed and continuous style. I hope that the style of the pictures will synchronize with the changes in my life and always remain oscillating. The performance of the work must be in sync with the development of one's own life in order to be Sincere and powerful. Ideas are later.

Artwork Interpretation

“October Rain” constructs a narrative with a unique visual language. In terms of the content, the figure wearing a hood and covering the face is the core. The posture of putting hands in pockets carries a sense of alienation. Elements such as the small boat and ripples beside the figure expand into a surreal situation, blurring the boundary between reality and illusion. In terms of composition, the figure occupies the central axis, and the background buildings and flowing textures extend to the surroundings, forming a gathering yet spreading visual tension. It guides the viewers’ eyes to focus on the figure while feeling the expansiveness of the environment.

The use of color is bold and hierarchical. The interweaving of tones such as gray - blue and yellow - brown creates a moist and hazy rainy - day atmosphere. The blending and blending of colors fit the thematic imagery of “October Rain”, allowing the sense of moistness to be conveyed through the picture. The painting style tends to combine expressionism and surrealism. The brushstrokes are loose. By using deformed and fantasy - like visual symbols, such as the flowing texture of the figure’s clothing patterns and the distorted forms of the background buildings, it breaks the conventional realistic logic and strengthens the expression of subjective emotions.

The emotional expression is implicit and complex. The covered state of the figure may imply the loneliness and defensive psychology of individuals in modern society. The small boat and ripples also imply the exploration of the unknown and inner tranquility. In the conflict and integration, it conveys an emotion of coexisting confusion and longing. In terms of similar artists, it echoes the surreal paintings of Marc Chagall. Both use fantasy elements and subjective colors to explore the inner world. However, this work focuses more on the spiritual dilemma of urban individuals. Through the collision between the concrete figure and the abstract environment, it interprets the wandering of contemporary people between reality and fantasy. It weaves a hidden dialogue about the self, the environment, and emotions with visual symbols, allowing viewers to perceive the survival state of individuals in the context of modernity from the bizarre yet real details of the picture.

Why is the subject’s face almost obscured?

The figure lowers their head beneath a hat, with the face deliberately blurred. This makes it difficult for viewers to identify a clear persona, instead emphasizing the act of walking as the central motif. It becomes a symbol of urban anonymity.

Why does the background contrast golden and gray-violet tones so strongly?

The golden strokes resemble streetlights reflected in autumn rain, while the gray-violet conveys dampness and chill. Their interplay creates a scene that feels both warm and detached, capturing the complex atmosphere of the city during the rainy season of October.

Why are the figure’s clothes painted like flowing water?

The folds of the garment are not rendered as static fabric but as rippling currents, echoing the fluid lines of the background. This treatment makes the figure appear enveloped by rain, wind, or the whirlpool of memory, introducing a touch of surrealism.

What do the raindrop ripples and symbolic shapes represent?

In the lower left, a circular ripple and sharp-edged symbols evoke marks upon a water surface. They serve as both natural elements and psychological signifiers, forming a symbolic visual language. This connects the work to contemporary abstract expressionism, making it appealing to collectors seeking thought-provoking pieces for modern spaces.

What is the artwork’s value for collection and display?

The painting merges urban impressionism with symbolic intent. It is neither purely realist nor fully abstract, but instead balances narrative and metaphor. Such a work is well-suited for display in studies, galleries, or café interiors, where it provides not only atmospheric depth but also invites reflection on urban solitude and the fluidity of human experience.
