Since these figures do not exist in everyday life, the following descriptions are provided for reference to aid understanding (they are not the only possible interpretations):
Nilin — Starry — The boundary of stars and moon cradled in the arms, half sand and mud, half sea. The red hair on the sand and mud—referred to as red threads—symbolizes the complex, intertwined emotions between people. The crab’s carapace represents the one pure and stable element that shields the fleeting, drifting life.
“Ni Lin” is a character in the novel I am currently writing.
Ni means the earth, and Lin means the mountain wilderness. Together, “Ni Lin” evokes a handful of soil dropped on the sea, swelling with the tide and spreading into a vision of branches rising and swaying like a mountain woods.
She stands for an ongoing process of life, a miniature of the seaside town I know—where people, events, nature, and society intertwine in vast, shifting connections, and emotions hover between the real and the unreal.
Ni Lin is the answer I received after questioning the affairs of this world. The stories that follow are answers as well—blurred, often without knowing what they truly point to.. There may be moments of certainty, yet as your eyes move forward, they, too, fade and return to doubt.
Certainty brings comfort, yet it pauses at your toes like the tide, leaving on the sand a trace that may not even be clear. As it retreats, it dissolves swiftly—becoming a question again, sinking into layered waves of memory.
Whatever is certain is always receding; what is approaching causes unease. Amid the rising and falling tides, perhaps only by treating the whole swell of doubt as a kind of certainty can one find happiness.
Ni Lin once appeared vividly in my life and spoke with me. I don't know when she disappeared.
What is the inspiration behind this figure?
“Nilin — Starry” is inspired by the idea of an “inner cosmos.” The facial structure appears reconfigured, as if the vastness of stars has been compressed into the body. Rather than pointing outward to nature, it reflects an inward collapse of space and consciousness.
What materials are used, and is it suitable for long-term display?
The figure is handcrafted using PU resin and individually painted with water-based pigments. To ensure long-term preservation, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and high humidity.
Are all pieces identical?
As each piece is handmade, subtle variations in color layering, texture, and sculptural details will occur, making every figure unique.
What is the role of this piece within the series?
“Nilin — Starry” is a regular edition within the series. Compared to the outward flow of “Wind” and the sedimentary stillness of “Sand,” it emphasizes inner structure and psychological space, representing a more introspective aspect of the series.
Does the figure include numbering or collectible information?
This edition is limited to 39 pieces. Each figure is individually numbered to indicate its place within the batch and to enhance its collectible value.
